Adam Wa Mishmish x Mo Works: Best Arabic Learning App

Mo Works truly put the WORK in our App “Learn Arabic with Adam Wa Mishmish”, and it shows!

We have all danced to Adam Wa Mishmish’s tunes, and enjoyed their adventures in the form of books and flashcards, and even in plays and concerts. But that wasn’t enough. Our founding team knew there was a big shortage of Arabic resources for both parents and teachers, so they wanted to make learning Arabic easy and fun for them by creating even more content. They partnered with early years experts Afia Al Omari and Karma Al Khalidi to create an amazing learn through play curriculum, and bring quality education to our young children. To deliver this content, the Adam Wa Mishmish team made the leap into the world of Education Technology, and that’s how today, we have Learn Arabic with Adam Wa Mishmish. An application that has thousands of resources from flashcards, stories, activity sheets, music, videos and much more, lovingly made by artists, musicians and language and education experts who also happen to be parents. They know what kids love, and that’s why they do it so well.

They had the content and education part covered, but they still needed help with the technological aspect of it all, and that’s when they met with Mo Works. A creative agency based in Melbourne, Australia, run by a fellow Jordanian named Mo Hamdouna.

As told by our CEO and Co-Founder Luma Al Adnani:

“I had posted on facebook that we were looking for developers to help us build our new tech product. Mo got in touch right away and mentioned that he owns an agency in Melbourne, and that they’d love to help us bring our product to life. What really sold me though is that Mo was a fan. He knew the songs, his kids loved us, and he’d attended our play at Haya Cultural Center, “Adam Wa Mishmish in the Garden of Letters” that past summer while in Amman for summer holidays. He believed in our mission, our vision, and where we want to take the field of Arabic language ed-tech for the early years, and thus our future together was set.

The team is amazing. They are attentive, helpful, and work WITH us, rather than just for us. Bringing ideas to life, designs and executing them was seamless. We are so excited about the current version of the app, but even more excited about the new features we are already building together, to make it more interactive for kids.”

Managing Director at Mo Works Mo Hamdouna’s belief in the app was truly inspiring. This is what Mo had to say about Adam Wa Mishmish:

“Being part of a project that will teach a whole generation their mother tongue is beyond fulfilling for me. I knew all Adam Wa Mishmish songs before working with them as I used to play the songs to my kids. When I saw that they are looking for a partner to develop their app, I offered my service on the spot, around 11pm!“

Mo is looking forward to the future of the app and feels like there is still so much potential for it to grow:

“Beside my passion for the A&M mission, the team loved working on this app due to its challenges and potential. We have developed the idea further and in the next releases we are bringing an international marketplace for teachers, interactive games and a full LMS!”

The focus of the app is to build vocabulary and key words for young children to set them up for success for the next phase; reading and writing. The way it’s built is by theme and by topic. There are a total of 9 themes, including The Seasons, Animals, Occupations, Arabic Language Basics, Our Bodies, The World Around Us, All About Me, Modes of Transportation and Basic Sciences. Each theme has a range of 3 to 8 topics underneath it. Within those topics are concepts that are important for every child to grasp. The key words are repeated throughout the different features, but in different ways to help reinforce the words and their meanings and have the children put them into practice.

Flash cards: Every lesson starts off using Flashcards. These introduce the main words we want the child to know! With their vibrant colors and cartoon-ish graphics, children cannot help but pour all their attention to those cards. As they swipe through the cards, they hear the word and repeat it again and again until it becomes a familiar vocabulary for them.

Musical Episodes: Music ignites all areas of child development and skills for school readiness, including intellectual, social-emotional, motor, language, and overall literacy. It helps the body and the mind work together. This is why each lesson in our app contains an original Adam Wa Mishmish musical episode. You have the option of either listening to them, without the animated episode, or with, depending on your preference and the child’s age. The “only music” feature allows you to plug your phone to your car, your speakers and play the songs on repeat when you want. The songs and the videos sound out and illustrate the key words introduced in the flashcards.

Story Books: Start reading to your children from their very first days in the world, it does wonders. The “Learn Arabic with Adam Wa Mishmish” application includes story books that have riveting graphics and engaging stories that will help your child learn Arabic vocabulary and build positive associations with their Arabic language. Again, the key words are repeated and put into the context of a story so the child can understand how they apply in the real world.

Crafts Video: The “Learn Arabic with Adam Wa Mishmish” application contains an activity video at the end of each lesson that you can apply in real life. Pick the colors and  materials needed, and discuss the process of your child’s creation with them. Build  a fun interactive learning environment for your child and help them use and repeat the key words in this process. They can also learn colors and textures through this activity. It’s a great chance to reinforce the meaning of the key words for that specific lesson. It’s important to let your child be as creative as possible. These videos are a guide, and we do not by any means expect your child’s final product to look exactly the same.

Badges: Every accomplishment deserves to be celebrated. With every lesson that your child completes they earn a badge for its completion. This will be a great motivator for your child to finish the activities and lessons.

Games: In our next update we will have loads of fun interactive games at the end of each lesson for your child to enjoy and learn from. For now, try our first game “ Insects in the garden” and let us know what you think.
